An object story / Note 01
What we leave. What we carry.
A room by the water. A bag by the door. The small things that make a place ours.

The place is gone. The feeling stays.
A room by the water, just before leaving. A folded knit on the table. A key that will soon belong to someone else. A letter without an address.
We think of home as a place that waits for us. But sometimes it is a shirt, softened by wearing. Or the particular weight of a bag, packed the same way each time. Things learn our habits. In return, they make unfamiliar rooms feel a little less unfamiliar.
Remains begins with these ordinary companions. Objects that hold a little of where we have been, and leave enough room for where we might go next.

A place can be temporary. The feeling need not be.
